Alfred Amambua-Ngwa is Professor of Genetic Epidemiology and an MRC Investigator in the Disease Control and Elimination Theme, Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (MRCG-LSHTM). He is also an International Fellow, Tree of life, Wellcome Sanger Institute, UK. He leads a Malaria Population Biology group with a research focus on genomic variation and antimicrobial resistance in malaria parasites, insecticide resistance in the Anopheles vector and disease outcomes in malaria endemic populations. He is PI of a Human Hereditary and Health in Africa (H3Africa) project, Pan-African Malaria Genetic Epidemiology Network (PAMGEN) amongst several research and capacity development projects exploring genomics and bioinformatics for disease dynamics and pathogen evolution in Africa. Prof Amambua-Ngwa earned a BSc, MSc and PhD in Biochemistry (Molecular biology and immunopathogenesis) from the University of Buea, Cameroon. He has gained additional skills from several institutions across Africa, Europe and USA.
