Advance Research Management Capacity for Impact in West Africa

Objectives

The project seeks to strengthen research management capacity of universities in Francophone and Anglophone West Africa and aid their capacity to engage with donors and obtain donor funding as direct grantees to support their scientists. Lack of or inadequate research management capabilities in these institutions has been severally identified is one of most prominent factors that has been inhibiting direct funding access for universities in sub–Saharan Africa.

Through the programme a concerted effort is being done to develop capacities of identified institutions for better and more effective research management. The project will provide training and develop tools that can be utilised by the wider community for enhanced efficiency.

Activities

1. Co-develop, co-execute and implement a Research Matching Platform to enable institutions assess their research readiness and research management effectiveness. This will be rolled out at the Universities and then evaluated.
2. Support an organisational assessment of WARIMA to position it to achieve its full potential as a regional organisation providing a uniquely needed services in the sub region
3. Support gender mainstreaming in research and research management
4. Strengthen South-South partnership in the engagement between WARIMA and SARIMA
5. Provide training and capacity strengthening platform and tools that can be shared with member institutions including in French and Portuguese where needed
