The West African Research and Innovation Management Association (WARIMA) is a professional membership Association for researchers, research managers, and administrators in the West African sub-region. It operates across the research value chain, from research management through innovation to commercialization of research and research output. The Association is a member of the International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS).

Available Position :WARIMA Programme Manager

WARIMA has secured funding from the Gates Foundation to support Research Capacity strengthening in six universities in West Africa. It seeks to recruit a Programme Manager to support the implementation of the programme. The post holder will be required to undertake the following specific tasks under the direction of the WARIMA President

Qualification and Aptitudes required

  • A master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field (e.g., research management, project management, science, or related discipline).
  • At least two years’ experience in a similar role or organisation.
  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in a research or academic setting.
  • Evidence of publishing in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Strong organizational, communication, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of grant application processes and funding mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with research ethics and compliance standards.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently with minimal supervision.

  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Desirable: Ability to speak French is an added advantage.

Location : Ibadan

Remuneration: The remuneration for this post shall be US$3,000 per month.

 

Task and Duties

Programme Implementation

  1. Work with the project Steering Committee to draw up activity plans and ensure these are implemented on time and on schedule.
  2. Facilitate financial transactions in consultation with the Project leads and the Fiscal agent for the project.
  3. Draw up adequate risk logs and put in place adequate risk management plans.
  4. Ensure regular meetings of the Steering Committee, provide regular activity reports and obtain required clearance for activities.
  5. Lead the production of the annual reporting process to the Gates Foundation.

Production and dissemination of Research Capacity Strengthening tools and materials

This project is a capacity building project, in synergy with the wider objectives of the WARIMA association, the programme manager shall work to widen the impact of the project to sister universities with an aim to supporting researchers to obtain more grant funding from donors.

Grant Writing for Further Fundraising

  1. Support the expansion of the programme through the writing of grant applications in line with the WARIMA.
  2. In consultation with other stakeholders organise and conduct fundraising activities for the financial sustainability of the association
  3. Support the expansion plans for the Association.

 

Meetings and Communication:

Manage the Steering Committee and other stakeholder. Establish a calendar of meetings. Keep and produce minutes of all meetings and support with follow up of relevant actions. Facilitate effective communication amongst all project stakeholders. Facilitate the production of the Associations newsletters and other communication and visibility tool

Provide Training for Research Manager

  1. Conduct training of research managers at participating universities and institutions
  2. Support the policy review and development at the partner universities and institutions.
  3. Support the policy review and development process for the WARIMA organisation as part of the organisational effectiveness and capacity support process.

Publication

Ensure documentation of all project activities and ensure the publication of project outputs in a peer reviewed journal.

Any other tasks commensurate with the remit of the position – undertake tasks commensurate with the remit of the post under the direction of the WARIMA president.
