WARIMA held its second annual conference on 10-12 November 2008 at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The conference with the theme Institutionalisation of Research Management featured a special half-day workshop session on "Managing Collaborations: the Cases of DelPHE and EPA.

The conference was attended by delegates from over 50 institutions in Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. The DELPHE workshop (convened by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and the British Council) featured presentations by DelPHE project leaders from West Africa, who spoke about their successes and their strategies in overcoming challenges in DelPHE project design and management. Lessons were shared with over 80 delegates at the conference, project leaders from Sierra Leone and Ghana also reported on key outcomes from their Rounds 1 and 2 projects so far and their plans to ensure sustainability.

Prof. Ekundayo Thompson of the University of Sierra Leone presented on his DelPHE project "Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture in Freetown: Food Security and Income-Generation in Post-Conflict Sierra Leone," and Dr. Ben Mensah presented on his DelPHE project "Resource Packs in experimental science for teachers and trainee teachers to enable both face-to-face and distance learning in practical work."

The ACU and the British Council also delivered presentations, providing background and guidance to DelPHE process and inviting any prospective south-south partnership teams to approach the ACU for proposal development advice.
